P0521: Engine Oil Pressure Sensor / Switch Range / Performance
Oil-pressure signal fault, bad sensor, low oil, or real pressure issue
P0521 means the PCM thinks the oil pressure signal is outside the expected range for current engine conditions. That can happen because the sensor is lying, the connector is failing, or actual oil pressure is too low or unstable. This is one of those codes where you need to separate electrical trouble from real engine lubrication trouble as quickly as possible.
⚠️ Severity: Moderate. Only after one important check: if the dash is showing low oil pressure or the engine is making lifter or bearing noise, shut it off immediately. If P0521 is the only warning and the engine sounds normal, it is often a sensor or wiring problem. The danger is assuming it is only a sensor when the engine is truly low on oil pressure.
Start with the symptom pattern, scan for companion codes, and inspect the most common easy failures tied to P0521 before replacing major parts.
Yes if the root cause is still present. Clearing the code only turns the light off temporarily and should mainly be used after repair or to confirm the fault returns.
