P0010: Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit / Open (Bank 1)
Variable valve timing fault, oil-control solenoid or dirty-oil issue
P0010 means the PCM has detected an electrical or control problem in the Bank 1 intake or camshaft actuator circuit, depending on the engine design. Most often this involves the oil control valve, VVT solenoid, wiring, or the actuator not responding the way the PCM expects. Because variable valve timing depends on clean oil pressure, dirty oil is often part of the story too.
⚠️ Severity: Moderate. Usually yes for a short time if the engine still starts, idles, and accelerates without major rattling or stalling. But variable-valve-timing codes can turn into hard-start, reduced-power, or timing-correlation problems if they are ignored. If the engine rattles on startup or loses power badly, park it and diagnose it sooner rather than later.
Start with the symptom pattern, scan for companion codes, and inspect the most common easy failures tied to P0010 before replacing major parts.
Yes if the root cause is still present. Clearing the code only turns the light off temporarily and should mainly be used after repair or to confirm the fault returns.
